Essay Contest 2020

Contest Question:
“What Person, Place, Or Event In East Texas History Is Worth Sharing?”

Eligibility: All Students Age 13 - 17 Years Old

A total of four finalists will be chosen. One grand prize winner will receive a cash prize of $500 and the other three finalists will receive a cash prize of $50. All finalists will receive a “We Are East Texas T-Shirt” and a Certificate of Achievement from the Texas Forest Trail.

Guidelines: The student should address the question, “What person, place, or event in East Texas history is worth sharing?” The student’s name should not appear on any portion of the essay. The submission should be entered through the signed contest entry form (print here). Electronic and paper submissions are acceptable.

All entries must be received by end of day, May 29, 2020.

Evaluation Criteria:

Essays will be evaluated and graded based on skill and knowledge levels.
Creativity: Is the story told in a compelling way? 40%
Informative: Is the essay factual and interesting? 30%
Grammar/Spelling: 15%
Organization/Neatness: 15%

Format:

• 750 to 1,500 words
• Typed ONLY, in essay format
• Include original title
• Bibliography as a separate page required
